CJ Franklin

Hello
My name is CJ Franklin. Sort of. Don't worry about it.

I love to read and write books in all sorts of genres. (Or at least that's the plan.) I love to write stories that interest and intrigue me. Whether that's silly science fiction, pandemic stories, horror, fantasy military, or whatever comes up.

One part of my website is selling my books. The other is my blog.

Thanks for being here, and I hope you enjoy!
My Story
30-something years ago, on a frigid winter evening, I was born.

My childhood was normal, albeit it cold and snowy up here in Canadia. We're polite and all, but damn it gets cold. Whether it was being inside for 6 months a year, or the lack of internet back then, my family was all readers. We still share books between us. (Although we rarely all agree on them.)

My love of reading was born!

I read voraciously as a kid. Harry Potter, Deltora's Quest, the Eragon series (I never remember the name), Michael Crichton's books, Pillars of the Earth, and so many more. I was hooked.

And like many readers, I eventually came to the conclusion that I wanted to write my own. I even had a series when I was a kid called the Mac Brothers. I wrote it in my grade 3 notebook, and ran out of pages for homework. The Mac Brothers were time-travelling 11-year-olds that solved crimes throughout history. In one story, they solved Atlantis. (Mermaids sank it.) In another, they battled mummies in Egypt. They were fun. Terrible, but my first taste of writing.

I went to college for music. I love music. I still teach on weekends, but I did end up getting a 'normal' job. In a dream world, I'd be able to write full time.

During college, and the years after, I didn't write much. Occasionally, I'd start an idea and write a few thousand words, but it wasn't consistent. It wasn't until COVID that I really got back into it. All of a sudden I had no commute! I had this crazy thing called free time. I started reading more and writing.

A funny thing happened. I liked it. I really liked it.

But I was terrible.

The first book I wrote during COVID was so laughably bad. But I enjoyed it. I decided to treat writing like I had music throughout my life. Learn from talented people, practice and eventually... you'll get better.

That's where I am now. I read and try to learn from writers I admire. I critique my own work, while trying to push myself forward. With each book, I get better. (Or at least I'm deluded enough to think I am.)

I also enjoy blogging. I think of it more as journalling. Mostly because I hate the word blogging. I use blogs as ways to remember and reminisce on things I've done, read or want to discuss and write about. So that's on here too.

Anyways, that's a bunch about me. I hope you enjoy the site and the books. Also, I go by UberToque in some places on the internet.

Cheers.
